Painting faces

This video HERE is for painting a face by Celycom from NIADA, very interesting info for any kind of sculpting.

It is just a part of the whole video, but you can see enough technique.

And HERE is another painted face technique by Patti Medaris Culea, completely different approach.

Are you ready to start your witches? October is around the corner!
How about a Dia de los Muertos doll?

How not to take photos

This is a re-post from my main art blog, but fits better in a doll blog :o)

This is  Timmy. He is a tiny 5 inch polymer baby, and he went visiting places playing the touring baby blog with a mouse, a piggy, a frog, and another baby.
This is a WIP picture before curing the clay:

Taking pictures of your dolls is a whole different art. It requires creativity, and some camera knowledge. I don't  claim to be an expert at all, but I know what not to do ;o)
As I was taking pictures of this polymer baby, I came across all the problems in the book: bad  lighting, shadows, bad angles, weird background... and also an unwanted visitor (aka my cat Panzón) and decided after several "photo bombs" that I needed to post them in the blog. Here you go:

Baby looking in the wrong direction.

Weird lighting and shadows. Needs cropping.

Light is too sharp . Goofy cat in background.

Total fiasco. Bad shadows, blurry. Photo bomb cat.

I cropped the best picture of the sesion, and this is the result:

Much better, and ready for his 5 States tour. Ta ta for now!

Doll wig video

I have not done any dolls for a long while, but I want to share more great tutorials, this one made by Catz. The actual tutorial starts after a minute in the video:

I have not tried this method, and it probably wouldn't work with a tiny doll, but seems like a good way to have a removable wig with easy to find parts from the house. Maybe the hair extensions can be replaces with sewn material, like yarn, mohair, etc.

March, April, May...

Before another week passes, I want to share this fun and beautiful video:

I have been all into painting, and editing videos for a class I want to teach (not doll related), so please excuse the absence of postings in this doll blog.

There are some very patient dollies waiting for me to go play with them, (in fact, some are still waiting for me to finish making them!) but in the mean time I will keep drawing ideas for future dolls ♥

Thanks for visiting!

December, January, February....

Well, I hope your end of year was wonderful, and the new 2012 has been kind to you.
For the month of February I have been all into painting and zero dolls. Just too busy!
But nevertheless it was so sad to see ADO close :o(
I made great friends there, had tons of fun and I'm very thankful I was part of such an awesome group.

I will be working on bringing again the Traveling Doll Project, with the guidance of Waxela (Spiritmama) and working in team with other doll makers. So lets see when we can orchestrate this beautiful event.

Sherry's baby

Hello! I hope everyone had a nice Thanks Giving!
I had Sherry's baby dolls visiting me for a few days. She arrived all snuggled in cozy clothes, but we had warm weather here in California so she needed a dress to change into.

She spent Thanks Giving with us and had a nice time visiting the garden.

See all the flowers we still have?

She is a bit homesick so she is ready to go home to Washington. I will miss you baby girl!

The twins are back

Team BBQ: Zeb and Calee, ditch the circus and go home!

And how fun to make this post on such a special date: 11-11-11

I am very happy with the way they turned out, and their adventures took them about a year to be completed!

Finally finished, long over due homecoming as the jump in a box and make their way across the state. From New York (with Mealy Monsters Land) to California  and every where in between.
The circus was fun but they are ready to get home with lots of fond memories of circus life.

In a nice autumn day...

Sue's baby came to visit me right before Halloween.

She had a nice sleight for her winter travels, but here in California we don't have snow, not even in the snowy spots. I asked her what she wanted to do for Halloween and she said "fairy!" so I gave her long flowing fairy hair, and made her a cute tiny hat and fairy dress.

I was going to give her  wings as well, but she didn't want to put them on, because her brand new hair would get messed up.

She ate all the candy already, and all she has to do for now is climb on her sleight and go to her next stop at Sherry's place in Washington.

Bye sweet little fairy! It was wonderful to have you here visiting! (My cat Panzón will miss you too)

Here's Octavio

This little boy is Octavio... or, well, these are the parts I am sending to make Octavio into a finished doll, as he travels to Idaho, Washington and California. Sherry will paint him and put him together

Blog menu and new baby

Hello there! I have been playing with the blog's look, and added links of the top menu, hoping that it is more organized this way. Let me know what you think.

Also, I have been working on a new baby! He is not as chubby as I like them, but after not sculpting for a long while, I'm afraid my hands forgot how to do things! Plus well, I still have some trouble with my thumb I hurt about 2 months ago.
Never the less, here he is! Just from the oven, but not painted or anything, as he will go visiting on a tour to be painted, dressed etc... His eyes look better in person, this angle makes him look funkier than what he is LOL
I named him Octavio. (Because I made him in October :oP)

Cute tutorial!

My friend Mary posted a super cute tutorial to make a doll head, which was taken from an article in Portuguese, but just by pictures you can figure the steps, plus Mary explained very nicely. THis is cold porcelain but any clay really, can be used.
